Dublin's food and drink sit close together, and this guide works from two bases. The Liberties once made most of the world's whiskey, then Dublin distilling collapsed so completely that Teeling, opening in 2015, was the first new distillery in the city in over 125 years; Roe & Co followed inside the old Guinness power station on James's Street. At St James's Gate the Guinness Storehouse wraps seven floors around an atrium built in the shape of a pint. The markets are older still: George's Street Arcade opened in 1881 as the South City Markets and still trades under its red-brick arches, and Leo Burdock has been frying on Werburgh Street since 1913. North of the Liffey the range widens, from Mulligan's, pouring since 1782, to Chapter One and its two Michelin stars. Expect pot still against blend, stew and chips, and stall ingredients cooked at the van.

Camac Valley lies at Corkagh on the Green Isle Road, west of the city and about 10 km from the markets and distilleries, close enough to leave the van for two nights. Give the first day to the markets: George's Street Arcade under its red-brick arches, with black pudding and other Irish specialities at the food stalls, then fish and chips at Leo Burdock on Werburgh Street, eaten standing because there is nowhere to sit. On a Saturday, Meeting House Square has the Temple Bar Food Market. The second day is whiskey and stout: Teeling in the Liberties, Roe & Co on James's Street, the Irish Whiskey Museum on Grafton Street for a guided tasting, a pot still against a blend, then the Guinness Storehouse and the Gravity Bar.

Editor's note
Lynders Holiday Parks sits on the Quay Road at Portrane, out on the coast 36 km and about 48 minutes from Camac Valley, and 19.1 km from the places the last day is built around, so count on driving in. One night here covers the other end of Dublin's food. Mulligan's on Poolbeg Street has been pouring since 1782 and Joyce put it into Counterparts; go for a pint and a plate of Irish stew. Chapter One on Parnell Square holds two Michelin stars under Mickael Viljanen and needs a table booked. Rascals Brewing Company in Inchicore, an independent brewery founded in 2014, is minutes from Kilmainham Gaol. Anything bought at George's Street Arcade can be cooked at the van.
