Fishguard: The Last Invasion of Britain
225 XP
On 22 February 1797 a French force landed near Fishguard — the most recent landing on British soil by a hostile foreign power — and two days later, after surrender talks at the Royal Oak in the square, laid down their arms on Goodwick Sands. Jemima Nicholas, who is said to have rounded up a dozen of them with a pitchfork, has a memorial stone in St Mary's churchyard, and a tapestry made in 1997 for the bicentenary tells the whole story in the town hall.
