Puffin Island — Ynys Seiriol — lies off Penmon at the eastern tip of Anglesey. A hermitage stood here in the 6th century, and the remains of a 12th-century monastery are still on the island. It is a seabird colony, with more than 750 cormorants, over a tenth of the national population, as well as puffins, guillemots and razorbills, seen from the boats that circle it from Beaumaris between Easter and October.
