Bodnant Garden: The Laburnum Arch Above the Conwy

Henry Davis Pochin, a Victorian industrial chemist, bought the Bodnant estate above the Conwy valley in 1874, and five generations of his family have developed the garden; it was given to the National Trust in 1949, and the family carried on managing it. It covers 80 acres of hillside: formal Italianate terraces, a rocky outcrop called the Dell, a gorge garden, woodland and a waterfall, looking across to the Carneddau. Its Laburnum Arch is the longest in the UK and flowers in May and June.
