Culzean Castle: Robert Adam on the Ayrshire Cliffs
300 XP
Robert Adam rebuilt Culzean for the 10th Earl of Cassillis in stages between 1777 and 1792, turning a plainer house on the cliffs into the seat of the Kennedy chiefs, with its oval staircase at the centre. It now belongs to the National Trust for Scotland, and the top-floor apartment was given to General Eisenhower in 1945. Around it the 240-acre country park has a walled garden and clifftop paths looking out to Ailsa Craig.
