Allevard-les-Bains: The Sulphur Spa, the Iron Trail and the Collet Balcony
275 + 100 XP
Allevard-les-Bains has taken the waters since the 1830s, from a source exceptionally concentrated in sulphur and sulphates, and its museum, La Galerie, reopened in 2023 in the restored old casino in the thermal park with the town's minerals, its iron and its first skiers. Below the town the sentier du Fer runs up the Bréda towards Pinsot past the hand-cut galleries of the miner-peasants, who worked the fosses only in winter, and above it the Collet d'Allevard, laid out on communal pasture in 1955, gives a 360-degree view from Mont Blanc to the Mont Aiguille.

Before you go
The Thermes and Spa d'Allevard close for the winter: in 2026 they run 30 March to 24 October, and a spa session needs booking ahead. La Galerie, the town museum, opens from 1 April to the end of the autumn holidays, and only at weekends over the winter and February school holidays.
