Pont-Aven: Gauguin's Painters' Village
225 + 100 XP
In the late 1880s Paul Gauguin and Émile Bernard led a group of painters at Pont-Aven, the mill town on the Aven, who became known as the Pont-Aven School. The painted wooden Christ in the chapel of Trémalo, built in 1550, is the one Gauguin put into both Le Christ jaune and Autoportrait au Christ jaune in 1889.

Before you go
The Vedettes Aven-Bélon run from 1 April to 15 October from Pont-Aven and Port du Bélon; sailing times shift with the tide because the quay at Pont-Aven dries out twice a day. Check the day's departures before making the trip.
The Musee de Pont-Aven shuts for the whole of January after the Christmas holidays and is closed on Mondays for the rest of the year outside July and August, so a winter visit needs the calendar checked twice — for the month and for the day.
