Alquézar and the Vero Canyon

Alquézar stands on the right bank of the Vero at the mouth of its last canyon, under the Sierra de Guara, with a collegiate church declared a national monument in 1966 on the rock above it. Walkways bolted to the canyon wall take you along and under the river below the village. The Río Vero Cultural Park around it holds prehistoric rock paintings in over sixty shelters, including the Levantine deer at Chimiachas. Guara is the canyoning capital of Spain and the descents start here.
